The Monte Carlo Masters 1000 tennis, scheduled from 10 to 18 April, will be played behind closed doors due to Covid, the organizers of the first major clay court tournament of the season have announced.
This decision was made "in accordance with the latest government provisions to extend the state of health emergency until May 3, 2021".
Last year the Monte Carlo tournament was canceled following the suspension of the ATP circuit.
The Australian Open is currently underway in Melbourne, which was supposed to host up to 30,000 spectators per day. But the discovery of 13 positive cases - among people unrelated to the tournament - led health authorities to confine the state of Victoria for five days and forced organizers to declare the session closed from Saturday and at least until Wednesday inclusive.
