The president of the Japanese Olympic Committee, Yoshiro Mori, confirms the decision to step aside, announcing his resignation at the opening of the board of directors in Tokyo.
The 83-year-old former premier had been accused after his statements made on the sidelines of the proposal to enlarge the assembly to a greater number of women, calling it "problematic" due to their tendency to "talk excessively". During the meeting, Mori apologized for his "inappropriate" comments, adding that he did not want to be an obstacle to the organization of the Games.
