The German-Russian impostor Anna Sorokin, who was sentenced to several years in prison in New York, is free again.

The 30-year-old was paroled on Thursday, New York state prison authorities confirmed.

In May 2019, Sorokin was sentenced to between four and twelve years in prison.

According to the Insider and the New York Post, their release was justified with good conduct and the time spent in custody.

Sorokin, who calls herself Anna Delvey, posted a photo on Instagram on Friday showing her in a bed with sunglasses.

"You can't imagine how stressful the prison is," she wrote.

Sorokin's lawyer Audrey Thomas told AFP that Sorokin had not received any special treatment.

The lawyer did not provide any information on whether her client would be deported to Germany.

Sorokin originally came from a working class family, but in the US she gave herself a new identity as an alleged rich heiress and swindled a luxurious lifestyle at the expense of others.

The total amount of the fraud was approximately $ 275,000.

Clever lies and a confident demeanor

According to the prosecutor, through clever lies and self-assured demeanor, Sorokin managed to get tens of thousands of dollars in loans from various banks between November 2016 and August 2017, to travel for free in private planes and to live for months in luxury hotels in Manhattan in New York City without the bills to settle.

Sorokin also tried to start a mix of nightclub and art gallery, borrowing $ 22 million, using forged documents.

An influential builder wanted to give her a building on Park Avenue.

Sorokin comes from a humble background.

She is the daughter of a Russian truck driver.

When she was 16 years old, the family moved to Germany.

In 2016, Sorokin came to the United States and crept into New York high society.

The case caused quite a stir in the United States.

Star producer Shonda Rhimes has acquired the rights to direct a Netflix series about the case, with actress Julia Garner in the lead role.

According to the Insider website, Sorokin received $ 320,000 for this, but spent the money on legal fees, fines and reimbursements to her victims.

The broadcaster HBO is also planning a film adaptation.
