Anyone who can no longer work at trade fairs, concerts or festivals because they no longer take place can quickly get into financial difficulties.
For many students, the part-time job has ceased due to the pandemic.
So that they do not have to give up their studies for financial reasons, the federal government is taking countermeasures with so-called bridging aid.
The help should now continue to be paid after the winter semester has ended.
The Federal Ministry of Education confirmed this on Friday.
According to this, support for students who are in financial need should also be granted throughout the summer semester.
In a letter from the ministry to the German Student Union, which processes the applications for emergency aid, it is important that "students who are in acute need get a perspective and do not stop their studies for financial reasons."
The emergency aid was actually limited to the end of the winter semester.
It is aimed at students who, for example, have got into financial difficulties due to a part-time job that is lost.
The money does not have to be paid back.
100 to a maximum of 500 euros per month are transferred if the students can prove by bank statement that they are in an emergency.
In November and December almost 83,000 applications for emergency aid were submitted to the student unions in Germany.
Since November 20, it has been possible to apply for bridging aid from the Federal Ministry of Education again.
It expired at the end of September because the corona situation had eased in summer.
Between June and September, 244,000 requests for emergency aid were made.
In addition to setting up the emergency aid fund, the Ministry of Education also facilitated access to student loans during the corona crisis.
