A professor at the University of New Hampshire in the USA is said to have pretended to be an immigrant on Twitter and to have written sexist and racist comments.
The state university, the largest in the US state of New Hampshire, has now confirmed the man's withdrawal, but only described him as a faculty member.
The termination therefore followed a four-month investigation.
The man, a white man who, according to the Associated Press (AP) news agency, was a chemistry professor, wrote tweets with a fake profile that ranged from "unhappy to hurtful to extremely hurtful."
According to the AP, the head of the university's chemistry faculty already described this in an email in October.
In a public letter, the university president wrote that they wanted to protect the privacy of everyone involved.
That's why you're limited in what you can say.
The university had come to the conclusion, however, that the behavior shown did not correspond to the values of the university and the expectations of each faculty member to contribute to an environment "free from intimidation and harassment".
Racist, sexist and transphobic comments and pictures are to be regularly shared on the profile, which has now been deleted.
The man is also said to have invented a migrant background in order to criticize other users who advocate more diversity in the fields of science, mathematics, engineering and technology.
As reported by the AP, he mostly attacked women of color on Twitter and spoke out against efforts by an unnamed police agency to combat racial injustice after the death of George Floyd.
