Government: CEI, best wishes to Draghi, Italy join forces

(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 13 - The President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, sent Prime Minister Mario Draghi a message with "best wishes for the important and delicate task that awaits you and the new Government in such a complex phase for the history of our country, of Europe and of the whole world ".

"Italy needs to join forces", underlines the CEI.

    "The Church that is in Italy will be a careful and collaborative interlocutor, as always, in respect of mutual competences", assures Bassetti.

    The bishops want the government to pay particular attention to families affected by the crisis.

"We are sure that you will want to give priority attention - reads the message of the archbishop of Perugia-Città della Pieve - to the people and families most affected by suffering, precariousness and the economic crisis. We were also able to appreciate, in continuity with your precedents tasks, a particular emphasis on the European political horizon, with an eye to solidarity between nations, peace, sustainable development and social justice ".

    "We have followed with trepidation and concern the developments of the recent political crisis, knowing full well that Italy needs to join forces to face the heavy, even tragic, fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic. This emergency", concludes Bassetti, " multiple fractures are highlighted: health, social, economic, educational, generating among others new and widespread poverty ".
