Generational Attributions: The Problem with the Word "Boomer"

2021-02-13T16:46:10.991Z

Anyone who despises older people or disqualifies them as “boomers” divides society - and ignores the fact that there were people in every generation who fought for climate protection and against fascism.

My experience: Most don't give a fuck about people who don't seem to be part of the reality of their lives.

The higher corona mortality rate at retirement age is only good for well-groomed fear porn in the news, unless you are concerned about relatives.

Or relatives in nursing homes that many - without parents or grandparents - only know from television, but then quickly switch over.

Many who are not affected are not interested in the elderly, the losers in the competition, the cost drivers.

Sibylle Berg is a writer and playwright.

In 2019 her bestselling novel »GRM.

Brainfuck ", 2020 the discussion volume" Nerds save the world ".

Berg has received numerous awards for her literary work, most recently the "Bertolt Brecht Prize" and the "Swiss Grand Prix for Literature".

Together with Matze Hielscher she can be heard every 14 days in the podcast »Wesensfremd«.

They remind the younger generation of their own rapid decline, they stand in the way of the race for property that none of those running around will ever have.

The old people with walking frames and bad eyes are good at making jokes about them.

Or to sing shitty songs about her.

The de-solidarization is a capitalist move, and it is also spreading among the world-saving, enlightened, correctly gendered people who, without flinching, have clarified the question of guilt for themselves.

The old guys are all Nazis, and it's their fault and the boomers.

People are excessively reduced by them to their possibly non-existent attribution as grandma and grandpa and thus devalued.

They are denied any specialist knowledge, any competence for the wonderful performance society.

A young woman in a parliament who had run out of arguments - okay, they say: tired of discussions - used the word "boomer" to represent a generation.

In doing so, she has done all division efforts in the world of fragmented brains a great favor, out of ignorance or intentionally ignoring that there were beneficiaries and struggles in every age group.

And that the topics have always been the same over the past 70 years: climate protection, equality, class struggle and the fight against fascism.

They are as old as the knowledge that humans influence the climate.

Oops - nothing learned.

And proxy wars continue.

The Middle Ages against the very old, the Z generation against Generation Y, and against the very old.

Instead of questioning what it really looks like in the homes that parents and grandparents are shoveled into because nobody can or wants to afford the luxury of a multi-generational house.

The de-solidarized community, which hardly knows sympathy, no compassion, unless it can be outsourced to distant places or theories and is not bothered with it in everyday life, does not ask itself why the sensitization for groups of people - gender, sexuality, body, belief , Nationality - ends with age.

Excellent contribution to alienation

Because it reminds people of their own disappearance?

Because today over 70-year-olds climate activists, in contrast to Greta, look like shit and haven't made it either?

Because it's unsexy?

It is interesting that in my experience it is often younger women who use age as an insult.

As if they had internalized the lesson of the male sexualized view of people particularly well.

As if they had eaten the tricks of the advertising industry.

A number of those who today are engaged in an ongoing battle of smart shit because of the constantly renewed inclusion of all and their visible signs, with their latent contempt for people who happened to be born before them at some point, make an excellent contribution to the alienation of the population .

And obscure the real causes of the state of the environment, human rights and the march through of those who have accumulated really relevant property on a perverse scale.

As long as respect and inclusion does not affect all groups of people, any movement for a more equitable renewal of societies remains at the stage of a good-sounding, fashionable phrase.
