The British variant of the corona virus (the "British mutation") is probably more deadly than the original version of the corona virus from which it evolved.
This emerges from a research assessment published by scientists on behalf of the British government.
The report published by the UK government reviewed a number of studies and found that the British mutation, whose exact name is B.1.1.7, is more lethal than the original virus at a rate ranging from 30 to 70 percent.
It has been clear to the whole world for some time that the British variant is much more contagious and has already become the strain responsible for most of the new cases here in the country as well.

It is not yet known what exactly causes the British mutation to produce higher mortality, but one of the scientists' hypotheses is that it causes a greater viral load - the amount of the virus in the body is greater and therefore a more serious disease is created.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson hinted last month that the explanation is that this variant also causes a more serious illness and that it "may be linked to a higher mortality rate".
In other words, the British government has long suspected that the British mutation is more deadly compared to the original virus.
The new scientific report confirms this concern, although British scientists have cautioned that more studies should be conducted to specifically examine mortality.

Meanwhile, the British mutation continues to spread rapidly in many countries around the world - at least 82 countries have identified its cases with certainty, according to a report by the New York Times.
A study published earlier this month found that the pace of the US expansion of British mutation is so fast, until the number of new cases in her doubles every 10 days or so.
"These findings show that the variant B.1.1.7 likely to become the dominant species and the most common in the US until To March 2021. As a result, we anticipate further increases in morbidity in Covid-19, unless urgent preventive measures are taken, "the researchers wrote.
