Serious accident in Bavaria: A climber from the Landsberg am Lech area fell to his death while crossing a ridge in the Ammer Mountains.
The 29-year-old left Ettal alone on the tour on Sunday, as the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South announced on Monday.
When crossing from the Brunnenkopf in the direction of Kleine Klammspitze, it fell in steep terrain.
He died from his injuries.
After the man did not return that afternoon, the search was initiated.
Rescuers from the local mountain rescue teams, the Alpine Police Force, two police helicopters and the Oberammergau fire brigade were involved with around three dozen helpers.
The missing person was only discovered by the police helicopter crew using a thermal imaging camera when it was dark around 8 p.m.
Mountain rescue workers reached the victim on foot in the impassable terrain, and a little later an emergency doctor and another mountain rescuer came by police helicopter.
But any help came too late for the man.
