The first people in Germany are given the corona vaccination.

More than 150,000 Russians have already been vaccinated - and shouldn't drink alcohol for a long time afterwards.

  • In the European Union (EU), two vaccine candidates are about to be approved: One candidate comes from the Mainz company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer.

The other vaccine was developed by the US company Moderna.

  • Like already established vaccines, the corona preparations can also develop side effects, as the German government informs.

Everyone has to weigh for themselves whether a corona vaccination is an option for them.

Some experience reports speak for the vaccination *.

  • According to Russia's chief medical officer Anna Popova, one should refrain from alcohol for a long time before and after the vaccination.

You can find out how long here.

The corona vaccination should do nothing less than finally stop the pandemic.

Doctors hope that the vaccination will result in fewer severe coronavirus infections and thus far fewer people who have to be treated in intensive care units.

The citizens hope for a return to normalcy and thus an end to contact restrictions, curfews and travel bans

.

Vaccination campaigns are already running in some countries, such as the UK and Russia.

In Russia there are already more than 150,000 people who have been vaccinated with the “Sputnik V” vaccine developed by the Moscow research center Gamaleja, according to the editorial network Germany (RND).

After a vaccination, the body begins to work, but it reacts differently depending on the vaccine.

In the case of the vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna, which are about to receive EU approval, these are so-called mRNA / DNA vaccines.

These contain parts of the coronavirus genome in the form of a so-called messenger RNA

.

Upon contact with this messenger RNA, the body produces proteins that are typical for the coronavirus, which do not make you sick, but which stimulate the immune system to produce corona antibodies.

So the immune system is busy and in many people a little more susceptible to pathogens.

Accordingly, you should take it easy after a vaccination - and not drink alcohol.

Corona vaccination: "Do not drink alcohol at all in the first few days after a vaccination"

According to the RND, Russia's top medical officer Anna Popova recommends

not drinking alcohol before and after the vaccination

- for a total of 56 days.

The head of the Gamaleja research center, on the other hand, is in favor of three days of alcohol abstinence after a corona vaccination.

In general, alcohol should be consumed in moderation.

The Barmer Krankenkasse formulates it as follows with regard to vaccinations: “In everyday dealing with innumerable pathogens from the environment, our physical defense is much more challenged than by the manageable number of weakened pathogens in vaccines.

Our immune system can therefore easily cope with luxury foods: It processes vaccinations even when we then enjoy a delicious coffee with milk, a piece of cream cake or a glass of red wine.

As long as we do this in moderation, we do not disturb the routine of the physical defense

”.

However, the effects of alcohol on the effectiveness of vaccinations vary from vaccine to vaccine, which is why the Barmer recommends: “Try not to drink alcohol at all in the first few days after a vaccination.

Or you can just leave it with a glass of wine or beer.

After a vaccination, the body can produce bad antibodies if it is busy breaking down the alcohol

”.

The joint practice Lüer Hafemann OP-Ambulanz Barsinghausen also speaks out in favor of abstaining from alcohol: The energy that the body needs to break down alcohol should be made available shortly after a vaccination for the formation of antibodies Alcohol consumption in the first few days after vaccination should be avoided, even if it does not affect the effectiveness of the vaccination, ”says the practice site.
