In an interview with him yesterday (Monday), Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis declared that "the bilateral agreements signed between Greece and Israel, as well as between Cyprus and Israel, allowing unlimited entry between the countries - pave the way for tourism renewal."

As you may recall, last Monday, Israel and Greece announced an agreement that they would mutually recognize the vaccination certificates of visitors from both countries.

This step is expected to allow anyone who has been vaccinated to fly between countries without any restrictions.

Under the agreement, anyone who presents a vaccine certificate will not be required to perform corona tests up to 72 hours before takeoff, and will even be exempt from random corona tests upon arrival at the destination, as well as exempt from isolation.

"The agreement we have now signed with Israel serves as a model for our overall strategy," Theoharis added.

According to him, Greece is advancing in this area, showing flexibility and thus beneficial to tourism in this area of the Mediterranean Basin.

Commenting on the importance of the Israeli tourism market, the Greek Minister of Tourism added that "Israel is one of the top ten tourism markets in Greece. In 2019, more than 700,000 Israelis visited Greece, and we expected this figure to grow even if the corona plague did not break out."

According to the report on the Greek news site GTP, the minister also addressed the possibility of closer cooperation between the two countries on tourism issues, emphasizing the exchange of knowledge, sharing of health protocols, training in the field of tourism and mutual tourist traffic.

"These are actions that will benefit both parties," he said.

The minister also noted that the tourist destinations in the Mediterranean are very popular, especially among tourists from northern Europe.

He expressed confidence that after the traffic restrictions were lifted, many travelers were expected to visit Greece as well as Cyprus.

This is mainly due to the effective management of the health crisis in these two destinations.

Finally, Minister Harry Theoharis addressed the importance of implementing the vaccination certificate throughout the EU, an idea proposed by Greece to the heads of the European Commission.

According to him, the use of such a certificate will facilitate the transitions between countries, without any restrictions, and thus will greatly contribute to the impetus of economies in European countries.
