Johannes Volkmann, grandson of the former Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl, won 64,000 euros in the RTL quiz show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"

In the edition of the program broadcast on Monday evening with presenter Günther Jauch, he got out of the 125,000 euro question - Volkmann did not dare to answer.

The question was: "What has been an official part of the national health authorities in Germany since 1952?" The choices were (A) the Federal Alcohol Office, (B) the Federal Cannabis Agency, (C) the Federal Nicotine Office or (D) the Federal Opium Agency.

D would have been correct.

However, the candidate from the vicinity of Giessen renounced the risk and took the money he had made up until then.

When asked what he wants to do with the profit, Volkmann told the dpa news agency: "As already mentioned in the program, I can certainly imagine buying a new car soon." He would also like to support charitable projects.

His local church congregation, an organization founded by a fellow student and committed to improving living conditions in Nepal, and a Christian aid organization would be considered.

"I would like to use the remaining amount sparingly," said Volkmann.

The grandson of the "Chancellor of Unity" had already worked his way up to profitability in January.

Since then, however, RTL had shown episodes in which Volkmann did not participate.

His famous grandfather doesn't play a role in everyday life, assured the grandson.

But he also has to do with politics - Volkmann works in the European Parliament for the CDU member Sven Simon from Hesse.

The fact that he was now biting his teeth on a political issue did not particularly bother the candidate: "I am satisfied that I got this far and stopped at the right moment."

Volkmann had announced in January that he had the idea to apply for the quiz show last year.

"While I was in bed with Corona last year, a good friend motivated me to apply as a distraction from the quarantine."
