The persistent freezing temperatures have tempted many people to enter frozen waters in the past few days.

There were numerous accidents.

Such an accident came to a tragic end on a pond near Schlier in the Ravensburg district.

A 29-year-old man died a few hours after he broke into a frozen pond in Baden-Württemberg while skating.

As a police spokesman said on Tuesday, he died in the hospital on Monday evening.

The young man was reportedly around 50 meters from the shore on Monday afternoon when the ice gave under him.

A 60-year-old man wanted to help him and broke in himself, the police said.

Passers-by drew the helper who had died in the accident to the bank.

The 29-year-old was first taken out of the water by a diver from the German Life Saving Society and then taken to a hospital, it said.

The 60-year-old was also treated with hypothermia in the hospital.

Despite the freezing temperatures of the past few weeks, most bodies of water are not allowed to enter.

The police went out on a number of missions nationwide over the weekend to drive people from frozen lakes and rivers.

In Berlin she even used a helicopter for this.
