(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 17 - Incidents, with police charges, took place tonight in the central Puerta del Sol in Madrid, and in Barcelona, where hundreds of people were demonstrating to demand the release of rapper Pablo Hasel, in prison after being sentenced for some tweets and video against the monarchy and the police and the accusation of incitement to alterrorism.
According to the Spanish media, some protesters, after a peaceful start to the protest in Madrid with chants and slogans, tried to smash shop windows on the square.
Then there were assaults on the forces of the Policia Nacional, and bins set on fire.
The demonstration was not authorized due to a pandemic.
Even in Barcelona, in the evening, there were accidents, with objects being thrown towards the police, dumpsters set on fire and barricaded in the street.
Demonstrations in support of Hasel also took place in other locations: Lleida (there were also riots here), Girona and Tarragona (where the A7 motorway was blocked). In the Catalan capital, the clashes on Tuesday evening had arrest of 15 people.
