The decision to postpone the opening of the ski facilities will dramatically weigh on Italian white tourism: 12.4 million fewer tourists who will generate lost revenues for the sector equal to over 9.7 billion euros, as emerges from a note from the Demoskopika Institute for the period from December 2020 to March 2021. At least 9 thousand seasonal workers are at immediate risk.

From the president of Demoskopika, Raffaele Rio, an appeal to the Minister of Tourism Massimo Garavaglia: "Immediately adequate refreshments for the losses and revision of the Next Generation Italy, otherwise we will witness the season of de profundis of mountain tourism".

    There are 5 winter tourist destinations that are most penalized: Trentino-Alto Adige, Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta, Lombardy and Veneto, whose loss of tourist spending represents 86.2% of total Italian lost revenues, equal to 8.3 billion euros.

In detail, the white lockdown could generate a scissor cut in receipts equal to 3.2 billion euros for Trentino-Alto Adige, 2 billion for Piedmont, 1.3 billion for Valle d'Aosta, to almost 1 billion. 1 billion for Lombardy and 886 thousand euros for Veneto.

    The ordinance that established the closure of ski facilities until next March 5 risks, therefore, to definitively bring winter tourism to its knees in the beautiful country represented by 6,170 kilometers of slopes with about 1,800 ski lifts serving the ski areas that produce work. for as many as 14 thousand people in addition to related industries.

The average expenditure per capita estimated to support the white week is equal to 785 euros per person.

    "The new Minister of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia, who rightly branded as an act of disrespect for the workers the sudden decision not to reopen the ski resorts - explains Rio - it will not escape, in any way, that at least 9 are at immediate risk thousand seasonal workers employed in white tourism as well as at least another 5 thousand hired for an indefinite period ". 

A further grouping of winter tourist destinations characterized by a possible decline in tourist spending of between 400 million euros and 80 million euros.

It starts from Abruzzo with 388 million euros, immediately followed by Emilia-Romagna with 214 million euros, from Friuli-Venezia Giulia with 164 million euros, from Marche with 129 million euros, from Tuscany with 128 million euros. , from Lazio with 101 million euros and from Calabria with 80 million euros.

At the bottom, even if with far from insignificant losses, appear the white tourism system of Molise with 35 million euros, of Sicily with 33 million euros, of Basilicata with 24 million euros, of Campania with 21 million euros , of Liguria with 20 million euros.

Sardinia is at the bottom of this particular ranking by level of contraction in tourism spending, with a lower reduction in possible lost revenues equal to almost 7 million euros.
