Vaccinations in barracks and sports halls, an army of 300,000 volunteers in the field for logistics and to increase the staff dedicated to the administration, half a million doses per day as a goal starting from April.
The
new vaccine plan
takes shape
after the indications that Prime Minister Mario Draghi gave in the Senate, reiterating that the mass immunization of Italians is the "first challenge" for the government of the country.
The Prime Minister spoke of the need to be quick and efficient, of the "duty" to use everything that Italy has available to protect its citizens and already in the coming days there will be a series of meetings to define the lines of the organizational and logistical plan.
This plan, however, can only be strictly linked to the supply of vaccines: without doses, the campaign cannot start.
The strategy will therefore move on two levels, the national and the European one, where Italy will be a firm supporter of the line adopted so far by Brussels for centralized purchases.
The goal of the Ministry of Health is to get to 500 thousand vaccinated per day, 6 million Italians per month, mainly using general practitioners and pediatricians.
But to center it, you will need something else.
Arcuri should remain the part relating to purchases while the commissioner structure should be relieved for what concerns logistics and distribution.
"We need to mobilize all the energies we can count on, resorting to civil protection, the armed forces, the many volunteers. We must not limit vaccinations to specific places, often not yet ready: we have a duty to make them possible in all available public and private facilities, "said Draghi.
So goodbye to the Primroses designed by architect Stefano Boeri, which at the moment no region has requested, and space for barracks, palaces, fairs but also for places like Termini station and the Nuvola di Fuksas in Rome, spaces in shopping centers.
And, of course, the defense drive troughs, which will be converted into vaccination centers.
The first will open in the next few hours at the Cecchignola in Rome.
A change of pace that puts the Civil Protection back into play, a system that has all the structures of the State within it, from the police to the armed forces, from the representatives of essential services to voluntary associations and which guarantees the necessary coordination - through the Operational Committee in which all the parties involved sit - to ensure that the management of the emergency moves on a single operational line.
The Department is preparing a dossier for Palazzo Chigi, indicating the possibility of intervention and availability, starting from the 300 thousand volunteers throughout Italy that can be immediately activated.
Volunteers who can be used both for setting up vaccination centers and any tensile structures, and for the health part.
For example, the Red Cross, which is part of the system, now supplies 30 doctors a day in its shifts for the Fiumicino Center, which can reach 40 when the hub is fully operational and will be able to carry out three thousand vaccinations a day.
A scheme that could be replicated nationally.
It is therefore not ruled out that the Operations Committee may already be convened next week, to go in the direction indicated by Draghi: speed and efficiency.
