(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, 18 FEB - New York state governor Andrew Cuomo is increasingly in trouble, suspected of having cheated on the number of Covid deaths in his state.
He is now also accused of threatening political reprisals against members of his own party who have criticized him and who would not defend him enough from the scandal.
"I can destroy you," Cuomo said to a Democrat member of the state assembly, Ron Kim, during a fiery phone call. The governor, Kim told CNN, called him threatening to cut his career if he did not keep quiet about the revelations made by Melissa DeRosa, the governor's secretary who triggered the scandal. Cuomo would then ask Kim to publish a statement to refute DeRosa's claims.
