In the last year, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector has benefited in Italy from an increase in interest from the institutions, it is an integral part of the European recovery plan and is now a concept also known to consumers.
And it has responded well to the health emergency, with a growth of 15% compared to 2019 and a value of 300 million euros.
This was underlined by the Artificial Intelligence Observatory of the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano, in a research in which it analyzes the market for this technology, also mentioned by Prime Minister Draghi during the speech on the strategic objectives of the Next Generation Eu.
In general, more than half (53%) of the medium-large Italian companies analyzed by the Observatory activated at least one AI project during 2020. Spending is driven by investments in Intelligent Data Processing (33%), algorithms for analyzing and extract information from data, chatbots and virtual assistants, respectively at + 10% and + 28%.
The majority of users (94%) have then heard of AI at least once and have a correct conception of it, linked to the automation of specific tasks (65%), driving vehicles without human intervention (60%), to the interaction between man and machine (58%) and to logical reasoning (40%).
Over half (51%) have already used products and services that include artificial intelligence capabilities, mainly phone voice assistants (65%), smart home speakers (62%) and systems that provide tips on e-commerce sites (58%).
