A dive into underground poker circles with Jessica Chastain and Kevin Costner, the comedy "Adopt a Widower" with Bérengère Krief e

DRAMA.

Jessica Chastain hides her game well

At 9:05 pm on Chérie 25.

What talent does it take to keep the spectator in suspense for two hours twenty in front of the biopic of an unknown woman!

“The Big Game” tells the true story of Molly Bloom, a former ski champion who arrived in Los Angeles as an assistant.

Molly (played by Jessica Chastain) helps her boss organize underground poker games.

But after being brutally fired, the young woman decides to start her own circle of games.

While the latter attracted celebrities, millionaires and mafia, Molly is suddenly arrested by the FBI ...

Faced with this drama released in theaters in France in January 2018, we are immediately struck by the magnetic beauty of Jessica Chastain and the fascinating aspect of the underground poker world.

After her roles as a CIA agent in "Zero dark thirty" or as a lobbyist in "Miss Sloane", the sublime redhead again embodies a woman of power.

This time around, she's sporting a very “Kardashian” look, with false lashes and padded bras.

To play this character, the actress was initiated into poker, going so far as to follow members of the real Molly Bloom's gaming circle in their parties in New York.

Alongside Miss Chastain, we find with pleasure Kevin Costner, in the role of the father of Molly Bloom ... But beyond these performances, this "Great Game" amazes us by the sense of rhythm and the intelligence of the dialogues of Aaron Sorkin.

The creator of the series "At the White House" and screenwriter, among others, of "The social Network" and "Steve Jobs", signs a brilliant first film.

SCIENCE.

Make the dead speak

Jean-Paul Marat died assassinated on July 13, 1793. Capa / Matcha

At 8:50 pm on France 5.

Forensic pathologist and anthropologist Philippe Charlier specializes in the study of ancient human remains.

In this documentary, he challenges himself to reconstruct the medical records of two figures of the French revolution: Jean-Paul Marat and Maximilien Robespierre.

The catch?

Impossible to get hold of the bones of the two men.

The researcher then pushes his investigations further, in particular by analyzing Robespierre's death mask, then that of Marat.

The two casts would have been made by Madame Tussaud in person, the same one who opened her waxwork museum in London a few years later.

It remains to be seen whether these face prints are really authentic ... The bathtub where Marat was killed, as well as a desk on which bloodied Robespierre was lying, are also subject to samples.

The different stages of Philippe Charlier's investigation are fascinating and, even if the dead ends are numerous, the documentary is rich in information, also making testify historians, scientists or a curator of the Louvre museum.

DOCUMENTARY.

Away from it all

At 10:45 pm on France 3.

Salomé Berlioux, a young thirty-something from a village in the Allier, leads us to meet teenagers in need of future prospects.

Geographically, but also culturally and socially distant, these young people complain of being kept apart from society.

On the spot, the opportunities much less numerous, the boredom is quickly felt.

Creator of the association “Chemins d'avenirs”, Salomé Berlioux wishes to offer possibilities to these provincials by offering them contacts and giving them confidence in themselves and in their projects.

Often in relatively modest economic situations, without assistance, they would otherwise be destined to take over the farm or the breeding of their parents.

Raphaelle, 14, feels alone and isolated, she lives 45 minutes from the nearest shops, Dylan, 16, dreams of becoming a writer.

So many examples of middle and high school students who are victims of self-censorship, often aggravated by family constraints.

"Here everything is far" takes a benevolent look at a subject rarely approached from this angle.

However, in the countryside too, there are establishments classified as priority education zones, and problems similar to those in the suburbs exist there.

COMEDY.

Together, that's all

Bérengère Krief (Manuela Baudry) and André Dussollier (Hubert Jacquin) in the film “Adopt a Widower”.

Someci / TF1 Films Production / Orange Studio

At 9:05 pm on France 3.

Hubert has no more taste for anything since he lost his wife.

His apartment is far too big to shelter his loneliness and depression is now his only companion, on a par with the television he does not watch.

A blonde tornado arises.

Her name is Manuela, and she has an expansionist vision of shared accommodation since she brings other thieves, Paul-Gérard, a divorced lawyer, and Marion, an emotional nurse when she is confronted with the relentless cruelty of the disease ... by François Desagnat, one of the hotheads of Michaël Youn's tribe, “Adopte un Veuf”, a robust comedy, provided the actress Bérengère Krief, star of the sassy one-woman-show, with a golden lead.

It's life as we love it, tender, improvised, regenerating.

But it's not just that.

The adventures of the quartet, in which Arnaud Ducret reveals this undeniable temperament of a sensitive comedy actor that he will then confirm, pack the film with their double and triple saltos.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

ADVENTURES.

A sequel that creates an illusion

At 9:05 pm on M 6.

We take almost the same ones and start again.

Apart from Lizzy Caplan who replaces Isla Fisher in the role of the feminine trump card of the magic quartet, "the four horsemen" reform to counter the plans of a millionaire geek (Daniel Radcliffe) in search of a chip which would allow him to hack all the computers on the planet.

Fans of the first "Elusive" will find all the ingredients: humor, spectacular tricks, twists and turns.

With the added bonus of exoticism - half of the film takes place in Macao - and revelations.

Not much new under the hat, but the sleight of hand is still so entertaining.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3/5
