Film and series fans have to get used to a new name for a streaming service.
But does the change also have an impact on users and content?
Only last year, users of the Maxdome streaming service had to say goodbye to the platform *.
At the time, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group decided to concentrate exclusively on Joyn.
For Maxdome users, this meant either
switching
to
Joyn
or completely
foregoing
a subscription.
Those who prefer to use the RTL
TVNOW service
instead will
have a little more luck.
As part of an extensive rebranding, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland would like to rename the streaming service.
If you
are looking for
TVNOW
in a few months
, you will no longer find the platform as usual.
We explain what users will expect.
RTL Germany wants to rename TVNOW
TVNOW
could be a
household name for
many people.
What some may not know: The streaming service belongs to RTL.
You cannot read this connection from the name, which is why RTL Germany decided to
rename
TVNOW
to
RTL +
.
As the media
magazine DWDL.de
reported exclusively, this change was part of an extensive rebranding.
TVNOW will
no longer exist
in the second half of 2021
.
A specific date for the renaming is not yet available.
The new name may initially cause confusion, because there is already a TV station called
RTLplus
.
The
RTL +
streaming service should
not be connected to this.
DWDL.de also
reports that the company is also planning to give the broadcaster a new title in order to prevent future confusion from the outset.
What exactly will become of
RTLplus
is still unclear.

RTL + instead of TVNOW: What will change for users?
In the case of Maxdome and Joyn, one platform was crushed in favor of the other.
RTL seems to want to avoid such a step, which is why
TVNOW is
only
getting
a new name.
Users who already have an account will probably not need to create a new account.
DWDL.de
also has no information that the change will result in the deletion of content.
On the contrary: RTL plans to make further in-house productions available in the future.
These include the series “Faking Hitler” and “Herzogpark”, a documentary about Angela Merkel, a film on the Wirecard scandal and other crime content.
The brand new series "KBV - No special incidents" will also start on
TVNOW
from February 25, 2021
.
