A winter storm brought snow, hail and rain to Israel and the Palestinian territories.

A layer of snow covered the golden dome of the Dome of the Rock in the old city of Jerusalem on Thursday night.

Children built a little snowman in front of the Dome of the Rock, veiled women fought a snowball fight.

School started an hour later than usual.

President Reuven Rivlin posted a photo on social media showing him smiling from a balcony and looking at the delicate white of Jerusalem.

It was the first time in years that snow had fallen in the city.

The Golan Heights in the north of the country were shrouded in a thick layer of snow.

There was also some snow in Ramallah in the West Bank.

On the Mediterranean coast in Tel Aviv, however, it had hailed heavily on Wednesday.

There have been numerous reports of power outages.
