She arranged the furniture as the daughter had done in her home in the Hanoverian Südstadt.
A place where Sophie N. should have felt safe.
On the evening of January 10th last year, Sophie N. died in this place, in the bathroom of her home.
Little did she suspect that a man had been lying under her roommate's bed for hours who was following Sophie N. around the clock;
who knew when and where she was spending time with whom;
who could read, listen to and watch the news and videos on her cell phone.
The man was Patrick S., a former colleague, twelve years older than her.
The 13th major criminal chamber of the Hanover regional court sentenced him this Thursday to life imprisonment for the murder of Sophie N. and determined the particular gravity of the guilt.
When she was questioned in court, an experienced detective described everything that she found in her investigation as "quite disturbing," says chairwoman Stefan Joseph.
A formulation that the judge obviously considers to be more than appropriate: Patrick S.'s life before his arrest, his transgressive, violent behavior towards women, especially towards Sophie N. - all of this is "quite disturbing".
