A groundbreaking study at Sheba Hospital found: Within two weeks of receiving the first dose of the corona vaccine, the effectiveness of the vaccine is noticeable with a 75% decrease in the rate of people infected with the virus among vaccinated people, along with a dramatic 85% decrease in patients with symptoms.

This is according to the study published today in the journal "LANCET".

As part of the groundbreaking and first-of-its-kind study in the world, the effectiveness of the vaccine was tested after receiving the first dose among 9,109 employees at Sheba Medical Center, of whom 7,214 were vaccinated.

The data also show that in comparison with vaccinated workers and unvaccinated workers, the effectiveness rate in preventing disease with symptoms was 76% already in the third week after receiving the first dose and even increased to 94% in the fourth week.

This is the first study in the world that reports the effectiveness of the first dose of the vaccine in reducing morbidity and contagion in the corona, which is carried out on a vaccine in the field and not as part of a clinical study by a pharmaceutical company.

In fact, the results of the study that are added to studies showing the effectiveness of the vaccine in Israel have practical and important significance for many countries that are now forced to postpone the administration of the second dose due to a lack of vaccines.

Prof. Gili Regev-Yohai, director of the Infection Prevention and Control Unit at Sheba Medical Center and one of the leaders of the research: "The vaccine is effective in the real world and not just in clinical studies. It is very encouraging. In addition, It means a lot. "

This study is published after Transparent Hospital Maccabi released new data yesterday indicating a 95% efficacy for a corona vaccine.

Currently, the chance of a vaccinated person getting sick is one in 1,000 vaccinated people.
