Apple is about to introduce 200 new emoticons on iPhone and iPad, with a particular focus on vaccine-themed ones.
In the next update to iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 there will in fact be a set of icons dedicated to a trend that hopefully will soon become shared by most internationally, that of the Covid-19 vaccine.
For this reason, the Apple has decided to introduce new icons but also to adapt existing ones to the particular moment.
For example, the emoji representing a syringe, previously shown with drops of blood running down from the tip, will look less intimidating, filled with a clear, droplet-free liquid.
The new emojis were approved, as always, by the Unicode Consortium last September.
This is the organization that creates the code for the various emoticons which are then taken up by every company that uses them, including Facebook and Twitter.
We can therefore expect similar introductions in the coming days for the other big names in the network.
Emojipedia, an online emoji dictionary, spotted an upward trend in the use of the syringe-shaped emoji in its late-2020 trend analysis, especially on Twitter.
Jeremy Burge, Emojipedia's chief emoji officer, reported that eliminating blood from the syringe makes it more appropriate to represent Covid-19 vaccination, noting how the change does not prevent it from being used for other more classic contexts, such as donation. blood.
Other emojis that gained popularity following the pandemic include the microbe, mask icon, and praying hands.
