M5S: arbitration board, dissident expulsion on table

2021-02-19T09:22:31.428Z

War in the Movement, the split arrives. Orthodox alone. Grillo: 'We are no longer Martians'. From Baptist to the field. There is Rousseau knot (ANSA)

On the confidence in the Chamber in the Draghi government (535 votes in favor, 56 against and 5 abstentions) the M5s split with 16 no, 4 abstentions and 14 absent.

Di Maio underlines how the 'yes' to trust was "also supported by members".

Today the meeting of the Committee of Pentastellated Arbitrators.

On the table the decision on the expulsions from the movement of parliamentarians who voted against Draghi.

War in the 5s, split arrives.

Orthodox alone -

The split has begun, the fratricidal war is a fact, the battle over the symbol and the relationship between Beppe Grillo and Davide Casaleggio are two factors on which the very existence of the M5S as it was known until now depends. The "no" of the 15 orthodox senators to Mario Draghi opens a wound that is unlikely to heal. A handful of hours later, in the Chamber, the "contras" travel more or less on the same line. The autonomous groups, for the expelled dissidents, are one step away. And, in the Senate, the latest rumors explain that the Orthodox asked the secretary Ignazio Messina to use the IDV symbol. In the afternoon, the leaders attempt a counter-offensive. Vito Crimi reveals himself in Montecitorio, preceded by a post by Beppe Grillo in which the Guarantor does not change his pro-Draghi line: "The Grillini are no longer Martians. The Grillinis are no longer Martians", writes Grillo, drawing a line that unites the Perseverance probe, arriving in the night on Mars with the "perseverance" of the M5S 'yes to an environmentalist government. A yes that, in Grillo's strategy, could trigger a re-foundation of his creature. In the morning, however, governors and expelled are fighting each other with statements and posts on social media. At the news of the expulsion - which could also concern three absent in the Senate, including Emanuele Dessì - Barbara Lezzi responds in kind: "I am applying to be part of the M5S steering committee (from which I am not expelled)". But it is a provocation: the Statute, in article 11, states that whoever is expelled from parliamentary groups is also expelled by the Movement, and vice versa. There is a fact, however: the expulsion procedure - with the recourse that, as a rule, is made by those who suffer the sanction - has its own times. And who knows if, in case the vote on the new governance precedes the official expulsion, the dissidents cannot stand as candidates. The other "big" of the Senate expelled from the top, Nicola Morra, stationed in the House for a long time in the morning. Talk to Lorenzo Fioramonti, a former M5S minister who has been thinking of an autonomous group with other exiles for months. The numbers, in Montecitorio, would exist, as well as in the Senate. Even if Morra for now takes off: "I don't care, I don't want to go away". There are hours of earthquakes for the M5s and Luigi Di Maio is waiting for a first settlement. Then he could make his move, as asked by several deputies. But the tension, for now, is too high and also affects two moderate exponents of the caliber of Alfonso Bonafede and Federico D'Incà who, for a long time, in the Chamber linger in a rather high-pitched discussion. And then there is the Rousseau knot. Yesterday's thrust against Crimi - "the Statute has changed, he is no longer the political leader" - has exacerbated the irritation of the parliamentarians. "Keep the members, let's get it over with. There is only a competition for activists' clicks", is the tranchant line of an exponent of the old guard. Luca di Giuseppe Campanian facilitator M5s near Casaleggio launches a 'call to action' to support the expelled people with the "I trust" function. And in the evening Alessandro Di Battista re-emerges. The guide of the "descamisados" announces a Live for Saturday that looks like a descent into the field: "There are things to say. Political choices to be defended. Questions to be answered and a healthy and robust opposition to be built", he underlines. And in the background, war appears on the symbol. Which belongs to Grillo and his Association in 2012, but was loaned to the M5s Association in 2017, in which Luigi Di Maio and Casaleggio are founders. And chaos could also hold back Giuseppe Conte. The future of the 5-member Steering Committee approved by members may also depend on its future. But the former premier would still seem undecided between his list, the role of federator and joining the M5s. "Be the political leader, not the federator", is the advice of his former spokesman Rocco Casalino. Aware that his ambition would find a stumbling block, first of all, that of the Democratic Party.
