“You see life on rocks all the time,” says Huw Griffiths, a biologist with the British Antarctic Survey.
However, this discovery is nothing ordinary.
These phenomena have been observed in Antarctica, 900 m under the ice and very far from daylight.
Under these conditions, food is scarce.
How can these animals - some of which look like sea sponges - feed themselves and how do they survive?

“Until we collect these specimens and do DNA testing, it's impossible to say whether or not this is a new species. But what is certain is that this is a new habitat, ”explains Huw Griffiths, lead author of the study which chronicles this discovery. The biologist assures us: if animals can live in such conditions, science has a lot to learn from them.
