After a long journey in the cosmos which lasted nearly 7 months, the Perseverance robot landed as planned on the ground of Mars in the heart of the Jezero crater.
A success for NASA which marks the beginning of a mission lasting several years.
The American space agency immediately communicated an image taken by the rover on the spot.
" Hi world.
My first sight of the house that will be mine forever, ”tweeted the rover's official account to accompany the black and white image, on which we can see the shadow of the vehicle projected on the ground.
Other photos, in color and in very high definition this time, must now arrive daily from the red planet.
NASA teams will spend the next few days checking that the rover and its many advanced equipment have not been damaged and are working properly.
In particular the SuperCam laser camera designed in France by CNES and CNRS, which has the particularity of being able to analyze the molecular structure of rocks and to detect any traces of life.
The first rock samples by Perseverance should begin this summer.
The sealed tubes will then have to be brought back to Earth by a future mission, in the 2030s.
