According to media reports, a man was killed with a knife in a facility for refugees in southwest France.
The victim was a head of the facility in Pau, reported the French news agency AFP, citing the local authorities.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced that he would be going to Pau in the afternoon.
"I offer my condolences to the victim's family and loved ones," he wrote on Twitter.
The background to the incident is unclear.
The alleged perpetrator is said to be a resident of the accommodation who has lived there for a long time.
He was arrested.
According to the newspaper »Le Monde«, it should not have been a terrorist attack.
