"Love, Victor", "Big Sky", "Helstrom" ... with Star, Disney + is full of series

Thanks to its new offer, Star, Disney + is considerably enriching its catalog, especially in terms of series.

There was “The Mandalorian” and “WandaVision”, and not much else.

As for new series, the Disney + platform, launched in France last April, could so far boast of offering these two jewels, but its offer left something to be desired.

Now, thanks to its new pillar, Star, here it is expanding its catalog with old titles but also more unpublished ones.

More than film lovers, weaned from new products for the launch, it is series fades that will have something to eat.

Here is a brief overview of new titles and nuggets available from this Tuesday, February 23.

Fall under the spell of "Love, Victor"

Released in the summer of 2018, the film "Love, Simon" had seduced the public around its secretly gay teenage hero who made up his mind through correspondence on the Internet with another homosexual student.

The series "Love, Victor" takes the same plot and the new hero, Victor, this time corresponds with Simon, that of the film, while assuring him that his personal story has nothing to do with his.

A little too predictable, the series remains frankly charming.

Prepare to fall in love.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3.5 / 5

“Love, Victor”,

by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (2020), with Michael Cimino, Rachel Naomi Hilson… 2 episodes of 28 minutes, then a new one every Friday.

"Big Sky", the race against time is on

Cassie Dewell and Cody Hoyt are two private detectives.

When they learn of the disappearance of two teenage girls, they decide to investigate alongside Jenny Hoyt, the second's ex-companion and former cop, to find them as soon as possible.

The scenario of this race against time is signed David E. Kelley ("Ally McBeal", "Big Little Lies") and locates its action in the State of Montana, where the great expanses contrast with the usual urban settings of television thrillers .

If Ryan Phillippe is the most famous face of the series, it is Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick who carry this breathtaking fiction if not very original.

The prettiest places hide the heaviest secrets.

“Big Sky”,

by David E.Kelley (2020), with Ryan Phillippe, Katheryn Winnick, Kylie Bunbury… 2 episodes of 42 minutes then a new one every Friday.

"Solar Opposites", well-perched aliens

In the family “animated series for adults”, here is “Solar Opposites”.

Like its predecessors "South Park" or "Rick and Morty" ("Solar Opposites" was also imagined by one of the co-creators of "Rick and Morty"), this new series features characters quite quirky, who swear all the time and laugh at American culture.

Here, a family of aliens mistakenly land on Earth after their home planet explodes.

These four extraterrestrials must face the racism of humans towards them and, if some of them try at all costs to integrate, others want to leave our star as quickly as possible.

A funny and well-crafted series.

A new family has just arrived in the neighborhood.

“Solar Opposites”,

by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan (2020).

2 episodes of 30 minutes, then a new one every Friday.

'Helstrom', the dark side of Marvel

Curiosity within the prolific catalog of comics published by Marvel, "Helstrom" turns away from the usual science fiction and its superheroes for a clearly fantastic theme, with black magic and demons.

An atmosphere that we find in this series, very dark for Marvel, with even gory scenes!

We follow two young adults, a brother and a sister, whose mother is interned and the father a serial killer.

As worthy successors to their progenitor, the two heirs track down the villains over 10 episodes, during a season which we already know will not see a sequel.

Every family has its demons.

“Helstrom”,

by Paul Zbyszewski (2020), with Tom Austen, Sydney Lemmon, Elizabeth Marvel… 2 episodes of about fifty minutes, then a new one every Friday.

Joyful rarities

Of course, Disney + now offers huge titles like "24 Heures chrono", "Lost", "Desperate Housewives", "Grey's Anatomy" or "X-Files", but these series were already available on other platforms (Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, or both).

On the other hand, some nuggets land, and we expected them for a long time.

On the French side, first of all, the 9 seasons of “Fais pas ci, faire pas ça” are finally available in full.

On the American side, let us underline the presence of “Scrubs”, hilarious medical comedy carried away by Zach Braff, or the sympathetic series of action “Burn Notice”.

Broadcast on the channels of the M 6 group, it has never had the success it deserves and therefore finds here a second chance to convince.
