(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 22 - Thanks to the anti Covid prevention measures implemented in recent months, dental practices are safe places: the number of those in which a Sars infection has occurred is less than 1%. Cov-2.

This is highlighted by a survey conducted on a sample of 791 dentists and dental hygienists from various Italian regions, carried out by Keystone for the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (Sidp).

There is a wide range of tools used by dentists to eliminate the risks of transmitting the epidemic.

98% of the interviewees said they used FFp2 or Ffp3 masks, as many visors and 80% disposable gowns.

72% of studies regularly carry out rapid anti-Covid tests on staff and 27% perform them on staff and also on patients.

The majority (66%) take between 10 and 20 minutes for sanitation between one patient and another.

To reduce the risk of contamination through aerosols, 88% of respondents reported having implemented pre-operative rinsing, 87% natural ventilation, 82% the rubber dam, 56% the accessory suction systems.

70% of respondents believe that the measures implemented to contain the Covid risk are effective and necessary, but there are also those who even consider them excessive and expensive.

However, the positive effects were not lacking.

Although in 49% of dental offices the presence of at least one patient positive for coronavirus was notified, in 99% of cases this did not translate into contagion, i.e. less than 1% of the studies had an internal infection.

"The data show that the preventive measures adopted have translated into a concrete result - comments Luca Landi, president of Sidp - and this is important for it to be communicated to the citizens. What we are witnessing in fact is a reduction in the frequency of sessions. of dental hygiene and the one with which citizens go to the dentist's check-ups. In some cases it is also dictated by the fear of going to public places. We therefore want to reassure that in the case of dental offices there is no cause for concern ".
