Fátima Acevedo, the young woman who anticipated her death and the State failed to prevent

From this Monday a popular jury will decide the future of Jorge Martínez (35) for the femicide. The victim was 25 years old and in a shelter. His attacker had never been arrested.

" said Fátima Acevedo (25) in an audio that she sent to her friends.

She was afraid: her ex-partner -the father of her son- would not stop raping her. 

He had denounced Jorge Martínez (35) for the first time in 2017. The violence continued, so he again asked the Police and Justice for help in 2018, 2019 and 2020. He accumulated six complaints in total, but 

Martínez did not spend a day prisoner

.

It was she who had to hide.

She was in the House of the Woman of Paraná after he threatened her with a knife.

They had to raid her home so she could retrieve her clothes and those of her son.

On March 1 of last year he left the shelter.

Never comeback.

Martínez murdered her and hid her body in a cistern 18 meters underground.

This Monday a popular jury will judge him in Paraná.

You could be sentenced to the maximum penalty.  


The trial will begin at 9 and will be broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of Justice of Entre Ríos.

There will be 12 citizens who must decide if he is guilty or innocent.

The trial is scheduled to last five days and the final decision should be known on Saturday.

María Carolina Castagno is the judge who will be in charge of coordinating the debate and guiding the juries.

The accusation will be in the hands of Leandro Dato and Ileana Viviani, from the prosecutor's office specialized in gender violence in Paraná.

They accuse him of the crimes of "

serious injuries in degree of attempt aggravated by the relationship, special fraud and aggravated homicide because it is his ex-partner and in a context of gender violence

".

After the evidence and witnesses are exposed, the jury must reach a unanimous verdict and find Martinez "guilty" or "not guilty."


In the event that the jury does not agree, a new discussion must be held or, if the disagreement continues, a new trial.

On March 3, 2020, two days after her disappearance, the complaint was filed to find the whereabouts of Fatima.

Since that day, Martínez has been detained in the Penal Unit No. 1 of Paraná, with preventive detention.

Five days after Martínez's arrest, they managed to find Fatima's body.

In a rake, firefighters, police, trained dogs and a helicopter found the woman's body inside a 18-meter-deep well, in an open area of ​​Paraná.

The complaints, one by one

The first complaint was filed on July 25, 2017 in Family Court No. 1 of Paraná.

Acevedo accused Martínez of "

family violence

." 

She made a second complaint to the same judge on December 6, 2018. This time it was for "

gender violence

." 

In 2019, Fátima appeared at the 3 ° police station in Paraná and denounced her former partner for "

minor injuries

": during an argument he had thrown a bottle in her face.

He got a 90-day approach restriction and managed to separate. 

On January 31 of this year, Martínez "tried to throw muriatic acid in his face" and Fatima again denounced him.

Five days later, she carried out another for "

intimidation and threats

": her partner sharpened a knife while looking at her to scare her.

Thus, she obtained a measure to restrict her approach, but since she had nowhere to go, they transferred her to the House of the Woman of Paraná.

The day he made the last report, he saw him prowling the shelter where he was.

Then he murdered her.
