(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 22 - Insertion in the Constitution of the protection not only of the environment but also of ecosystems, biodiversity and animals.

And full involvement of environmental and animal protection associations in the initiatives envisaged by the new version of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, also through the co-financing of specific projects.

These are the issues on which the Italian Federation of Animal Rights and Environment Associations asks for a meeting with the Prime Minister Mario Draghi and with the Minister of Ecological Transition Roberto Cingolani.

In the letter sent to Palazzo Chigi, the more than sixty associations that are part of the Federation, starting with the founders Enpa, Lav, Leidaa, Lndc and Oipa, express "appreciation for the programmatic declarations of President Draghi and in particular for the commitment to promote the inclusion in Constitution of environmental protection and the concept of sustainable development ", reads a note.

"Precisely because it is a historic opportunity - they explain - we believe that innovation must take the most advanced form and, on the model of Article 20a of the German Constitution, explicitly include, 'in the interest of future generations', also the protection of ecosystems, biodiversity and animals.

Many of the constitutional bills envisaged by the competent Senate commission ".

" We firmly believe - they continue - that we cannot miss the opportunity to give constitutional status to the protection of animals, aligning our Charter with the best European examples, and we trust, Mr. President, may your government share our position and act accordingly.

We also know - they continue - that one of the first tasks, if not the first, to which your government will await is the re-elaboration of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan "on which they ask" the full involvement of Third Sector Bodies engaged in environmental protection or animal protection, also through the co-financing of specific projects ".
