Two men start a podcast - these days you shouldn't get a lot of listeners.

The scene has been male-dominated since the beginning of podcasts.

Spotify has now achieved a special coup: Former US President Barack Obama and rock veteran Bruce Springsteen have started a joint podcast.

In eight episodes, the two talk among other things about "fatherhood, marriage and the future of America", as the streaming service Spotify announced.

"The US is so divided as it was not in our lifetime," said Obama.

"How can we find our way back to an American story that brings us back together?"

The two heavyweights have known each other since Obama's first presidential campaign in 2008 and have been friends ever since.

For the new podcast series, they sat down for several days in the state of New Jersey, where Springsteen was born.

"Not much in common"

"On the surface, Bruce and I don't have much in common," Obama said on the first episode of the podcast.

“He's a white guy from a small town in Jersey.

I am a black man with mixed race parents, born in Hawaii.

He's a rock and roll icon.

I'm ... not that cool. "

The new podcast is part of a real offensive by the streaming provider.

In addition to "Renegades: Born in the USA" by Obama and Springsteen, Spotify also announced the launch of twelve German-language titles.

In addition, the Swedish company announced that it will start operations in more than 80 other countries.

This will give you access to more than a billion potential users in Asia, Africa and Latin America, among others, said Spotify manager Alex Norström.

With 345 million users and 155 million paying subscribers, Spotify is the market leader in the streaming business ahead of Apple Music.
