Almost a year after the suspension of face-to-face classes due to the coronavirus pandemic, the teachers of Misiones showed up at the schools on Monday and found a

lack of taps, toilets and a serious deterioration of the facilities

.

The complaint was made by the Union of Teachers Nueva Argentina de Misiones (UDNAM), which documented with photos the state of the buildings despite the million-dollar investment announced by the Government.

The head of the union, Estela Genesini, said that “we have registered

more than a hundred schools with serious problems

in the bathrooms, lack of water and a poor general condition.

Many of these establishments are in Posadas and in the interior the deterioration is much worse ”.

Genesini said that "until last year this deterioration and lack of investment was not so noticeable because the teachers held raffles, sold roast chickens or cakes to raise the money and make the minimum repairs together with the parents."

“In the last meeting with the president of the General Education Council, Alberto Galarza, we told him that they had no one to blame because they have governed the province for 20 years.

The reality is that they

did not put a new focus

, "added the leader, who is in charge of one of the teachers' unions not aligned with the Government.

Two weeks ago, the Ministry of Education of

Misiones

announced that works had been tendered for 700 million pesos for the repair of 633 schools.

And that another 177 were going to be repaired with funds that the Nation turned over to the Province just last month.

From the Provincial Institute of Housing Development they said that since the end of 2020 they have surveyed 150 schools where restrooms, electrical installations and water supply should be replaced.

And they admitted that the works

only began this month

, after a long process of bids and price contests.

Genesini assured that “we take the list of schools that should be under construction at the moment and the teachers tell us that there are no workers working in those places.

That the companies never appeared

”.

“In the meetings they promised us that they would appoint a goalkeeper for every 70 students.

Now it seems that there will be one for every 150 students, but less than three weeks before the start of classes

there are still no appointments,

”explained the union member.

“They ask us to take care of the health of the children, but how do we do it in a school that has no water, the toilets are destroyed or the children have to relieve themselves in a latrine that is falling apart?” Genesini wondered.

And they criticized the Minister of Education of Misiones, Miguel Sedoff.

"He wants the School 76 in Posadas to return with full enrollment when the classrooms are hyper small," he said.

"The teacher returned to school in dangerous conditions and

without the guarantee of health that the Government must ensure

," they posted from the union on one of the social networks.

A teacher from School 184, in the humble neighborhood of San Miguel de Oberá, used her social networks to show the reality she encountered when she returned to her workplace.

"Will someone come to see what condition our building is in?

Or just sitting behind a fancy desk they will judge that all school buildings are in excellent condition, ”he wondered.

"Is it just me or someone else has the feeling of shouting for help ... classrooms with closed windows, toilets in terrible condition, the protocol says to sanitize the door handles but

where are the handles?

Windows without glass or with broken glass

.

If someone reads what I feel and has answers to my questions, I gladly accept suggestions ... and if those who have the solution visit us, we would be delighted to receive them, "he said with a hint of anguish.
