The following fees may apply.

  • Especially in Corona times, the offer in the supermarkets * is gladly accepted.

  • However, be aware of the fees that some banks charge when you pay with a debit or credit card.

Update from February 23, 2021

: Many Germans assume that it does not cost anything if they

pay

with their

girocard

(the former EC card)

in a store

.

However, the reality is often different, as the consumer

portal Biallo.de

reports

.

Cashless payment

by credit card is still free in the entire euro zone.

Depending on the bank, however,

up to 75 cents could be

incurred

per payment transaction

.

“Our current study shows: at least 463 of a good 1,200 regional financial institutions cash in with their customers.

For each payment transaction at the bakery, hairdresser or in retail, it is between 0.02 and 0.75 euros, an average of at least 35 cents, ”wrote the consumer portal (as of February 8).

This means that an “average customer” who uses the card three times a day pays “around 30 euros” a month or 360 euros a year, the portal calculates based on the investigation - in addition to other bank charges.

If you

do not know

the

conditions of your bank

regarding this point, you should inquire beforehand if in doubt.

Not all customers are equally

affected

by the

fees

making

use of it

in the

corona crisis

payments with cash as often as possible going to avoid

.

At the same time, 7 out of 10 respondents (71 percent) would like more options for contactless payments.

What not everyone has in mind when it comes to cashless payments are the fees that some banks charge.

When paying with an EC card, many savings banks and Volksbanks charge fees

The Niederrheinische Sparkasse Rhein-Lippe is demanding the maximum price of 70 cents per transaction for the 'Giro Nispa Klassik' account model, reports the portal.

"Biallo.de" also calculated that an average of two card payments per day would result in an

additional charge of 504 euros

to customers

by the end of the year

.

With Haspa, the largest savings bank in Germany is also demanding a fee from customers who use the "Classic" account model - "50 cents per card transaction," says the report.

Businessinsider.de also writes

that not all customers are equally affected by the fees

.

What was noticeable during the investigation is that you would meet the majority of customers who have an inexpensive 'classic account', online accounts or basic accounts.
