Spotify follows Amazon Music and goes Hi-Fi.
This was announced by the popular song streaming platform at its virtual Stream On event.
Spotify Hi-Fi, which reproduces the audio quality of CDs, will be available later this year only "in selected markets".
Amazon launched Music HD in 2019 with an ad hoc pricing plan.
Tidal, another most popular streaming music service in the United States, has supported High-Resolution Audio from the start.
Spotify announced at the same event that it will expand into 80 new markets including Nigeria, Pakistan and Bangladesh, and more than 36 languages. "Together these markets - explains the company - represent more than 1 billion people with about half already using the Internet". In the last quarter of 2020, the platform reached 155 million paying users, while the total number of monthly active users is 345 million.
