The lava jets reached several hundred meters high.
Last night, Etna erupted for the fifth time in a week.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV) noted two lava flows on the south-eastern slope.
The overnight eruption peaked at around 11:00 p.m. Monday and then ended around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday.
The lava flows traveled a hundred meters before they were no longer fed.
“We have seen worse,” commented Stefano Branca, director of INGV in Catania last week during the first eruptions. The neighboring houses are not in danger, but Catania airport is still closed. Etna, with an area of 1,250 km2, is the highest active volcano (3,324 m) in Europe, with frequent eruptions for around 500,000 years.
