Vincenzo Nibali dreams of the trio to become the oldest winner in the history of the Giro d'Italia, right in the year of the Olympics, the last goal he misses.

Egan Bernal, making his debut in the race, aims to enter the small group of champions capable of conquering the 'Endless Trophy' before he is 25 years old.

But the Maglia Rosa, which is just 90 years old, is also the declared goal of Thibaut Pinot, Romain Bardet, Mikel Landa and that phenomenon of Remco Evenepoel who is doing everything to get back competitive after the frightening accident at the Giro di Lombardia, except by a miracle after flying off a bridge.

At the starting line of the Corsa Rosa 2021 there will also be Filippo Ganna, undisputed king of the time, Peter Sagan, Caleb Ewan, Fernando Gaviria and Elia Viviani who will fight the sprints.

In short, there will be no shortage of themes even this year at the Giro d'Italia, whose route was unveiled today on RaiDue which confirms itself - despite the interest of other broadcasters - the home of cycling, guaranteeing 17 live broadcasts on the 21 stages.

From Piazza Castello in Turin, the first capital of Italy that turns 160, to Piazza del Duomo in Milan, the most traditional finish of the race.

Through tributes to Dante Alighieri for the 700th anniversary of his death and to the legendary Italian coach Alfredo Martini, one hundred years after his birth.

The South is not involved: the Giro will touch Foggia and then return to the North.

A modern track: two time trials only - at sunrise and sunset of the race (for a total of 38.4 km) - and six uphill finishes.

Despite a record height difference (47 thousand meters in total), there will be very few mountains above two thousand - also to avoid having to reshape stages for the snow as it has too often happened in the recent past -, with Passo Pordoi as Cima Coppa (2,239).

A nervous path: every distraction will be punished but it will be difficult to give abysmal gaps to rivals.

So a very short general classification is conceivable, as happened last year with the triumph of Geoghegan Hart (absent in 2021) over Hindley and Keldermann only after the time trial in Milan.

"It is a tough, very beautiful route - Vincenzo Nibali's first opinion - with many important climbs already in the first week. And then there is the Zoncolan ...".

On that peak and in the Dolomite stage, from Salice to Cortina, whoever wants to win will have to make a difference.

"I am very happy to prepare for the Giro d'Italia - explains Bernal, who took his first pro steps in Italy with the Androni -, it is a race that I have always wanted to do, since my first year as a professional. days I have already gone to try the stage with the arrival at Alpe di Mera, it will be a beautiful lap and I expect many fans ".

The legitimate outsider for the squad is Remco Evenepoel, in the first big stage race after having had to give up due to an injury to those of 2020: "My dream is to be really ready in May, I started pedaling again some time after my accident at Giro di Lombardia. The course is really difficult, it will be a very spectacular race. And then I want to find out what the Italian fans are like. "

73 days from the start, it is not yet established in detail how the organizers will manage the influx of the public along the streets but all anti-Covid regulations will be respected at departures and arrivals.

"We can have a lot of people both on the streets and at home, last year in October there was a lot of them on the street even with the necessary safety measures. We hope that all this can be done even better this year", the omen of Cairo.

"The Giro is an opportunity - commented by the Minister of Tourism Massimo Garavaglia - to show the world the beauty of our country and this year will be the symbol of the restart".
