(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 24 - The self-portrait in 154 songs by Paul McCartney, 'The Lyrics: 1965 to the Present', edited and introduced by the Pulitzer Prize Paul Muldoon, will be in bookstores in November 2021, world-wide contemporary.

"I don't know how many times I've been asked if I would write an autobiography, but it was never the right time. The only thing I've always been able to do, at home or on the road, is to write new songs. I know that when it comes to a a certain age, a diary helps to recall the past days. But I never took notes. What I have left are my songs, hundreds of songs that, I understand, are equivalent to a kind of diary. In these songs there is the whole arc of my life, "says Paul McCartney.

They are two volumes in a box set in which McCartney tells, with extraordinary sincerity, his life and his art through 154 songs that cover all the phases of his career - from the first youth compositions to the legendary decade with iBeatles, from the Wings to the solo albums.

Organized in alphabetical, not chronological order, the definitive texts of the songs are collected here for the first time, together with the story of the circumstances in which they were written, of the people and places that inspired them.

There are unpublished and precious materials from his personal archive, manuscripts, letters, photographs.

"I hope what I have written will show readers something about my songs and my life that they have never seen before. I tried to say something about how music is born, what it means to me and what I hope it means to others as well" explains Paul McCartney. wrote his first song 14 years old.

"These texts, drawn from five years of conversations with Paul McCartney, are the closest we will ever get to an autobiography. What Paul tells us about his creative process confirms something we could only suspect before: we are faced with a writer of primary importance who fits perfectly into the long tradition of English poetry, "says Paul Muldoon.
