The cemetery of Camogli near Genoa has partially collapsed into the sea. No injuries are to be deplored among the workers present on

From the top of the cliff, the cemetery of the Italian village of Camogli is as if scarred.

A landslide on Monday 22 February caused the fall of more than 200 coffins directly into the sea. The causes of the collapse are still to be clarified but according to local authorities, the collapse is due to the erosion of the cliff.

This has accelerated because of the violent tides that the Ligurian coast has suffered for several years.

The Italian public authorities immediately dispatched agents to the scene: firefighters, municipal police officers and a team of divers responsible for bringing the coffins to the surface.

However, the swells complicated the operation and only ten of them were recovered.

No injuries were to be deplored because the workers who worked in the area were able to leave the site in time.

A few months earlier, near Ventimiglia, corpses had been discovered on the shore after a stay in the Mediterranean.

Very quickly, the authorities understood that they were probably the occupants of the coffins of the Roya valley, washed away by storm Alex.
