The police in the southern Italian port city of Salerno took action on Wednesday in a major raid against a group of organized drug traffickers.
As the Adnkronos news agency wrote, the action was directed against 47 suspects.
The accused are not only supposed to have traded drugs, but also to have set up a kind of marketplace for smuggled cell phones and illegal substances in a prison in Salerno.
In this context, they are said to have threatened and blackmailed people.
According to media reports, a prison police officer is also among the suspects.
Pre-trial detention warrants were available against numerous accused or other security measures had been issued, it said.
Salerno is located south of Naples in the Campania region.
In the south of the Mediterranean country, the Italian police usually take action several times a week in large-scale actions against Mafia organizations and other organized criminals.
