(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 25 - There are about thirty acronyms of the Coordination of Associations and Cycle Activist and Environmentalist Movements (including FIAB-Italian Federation of the Environment and Bicycle), signatories of the letter sent today to the Draghi Government to request interventions and policies in favor of cycling: from the destination of a an important share of the Recovery Fund in the reorganization of governance for cycling in Italy, with coordination between the Ministries and the establishment of the figure of the national Bike Manager.
"The strength of the bicycle is enormous and moving on two wheels is a value that is good for people, cities, the economy and the environment, so much so that the ecological transition cannot be separated from the development of sustainable mobility, of which the bike is protagonist ", reads the text of the letter.
The associations unanimously underline the urgency of a new national policy in favor of cycling, in which the State fully assumes the task of guiding change, as indicated in law 2/2018 which also provides for the definition of the General Plan of Cycling by the Ministry of Transport, still not available to date.
There are five proposals put forward by the Coordination: to establish a Direction for cycling within the Transport Department;
to attribute to an Undersecretary the delegations for cycling, active mobility and electric micro-mobility;
confirm in the Minister's Technical Secretariat a person dedicated to cycling and electric micro-mobility;
identify the new figure of the "Bike Manager" within the technical mission structure, with the aim of supervising the implementation of Law 2/2018;
recover and complete the work, now suspended, on the regulation of the Highway Code for traffic control.
