At the moment, many people are surprised by the mail from the health insurance company.
At the behest of the federal government, they send out two coupons for six FFP2 or comparable masks * each, which can be redeemed in the pharmacy.
These should actually be withheld from seniors and the chronically ill, as reported by the German Press Agency (dpa).
But many a young, supposedly healthy person is currently fishing the mask vouchers out of the mailbox.
And the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder also received a letter entitling him to get a discounted mask in the pharmacy - although he does not belong to the risk group.
The coupons are sent to around 34 million German citizens.
However, they have to pay a contribution of two euros to six masks.
As reported by the Techniker Krankenkasse,
the ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Health stipulates that the following groups of people are written to
:
People aged 75 and over
People aged 70 and over and people with certain chronic diseases (regardless of age)
People over 60 years
Risk groups

Women with a high-risk pregnancy
People with COPD / asthma, chronic heart failure, chronic kidney failure, dementia, stroke, type 2 diabetes mellitus
People with progressive or metastatic cancer, as well as chemotherapy or radiotherapy patients

But some vouchers also end up with healthy people.
The dpa quotes a young man who posted on Twitter: “I am neither a risk patient nor particularly old.

Why do I get an authorization certificate for FFP2 masks? ”.
Even children are said to have already received mask vouchers
, although the Federal Ministry of Health says that only old and previously ill people are entitled.
A spokeswoman for the AOK Bayern in Munich explains according to the Deutsche Apotheker Zeitung: It could happen that the insured may not even be aware that a doctor has previously made a diagnosis that meets the criteria of the Federal Ministry of Health.
This includes asthma, for example.

It is, for example, quite possible that doctors had examined a" suspected asthma "and these findings have now worked in the databases as criteria for sending the FFP2 masks,
" said a spokesman for the Association of Private Health Insurance (PKV) according to dpa : "We are only aware of the press reports on individual cases and corresponding social media posts about possible errands or addressees for whom the claim is not understandable at first glance," continues the PKV.
Clarification could then only be obtained by asking the individual insurance company.
Söder also receives a mask authorization certificate - but gives it back
The mask voucher to Markus Söder was also one of these errands: "I was a bit surprised," said the CSU boss on Sunday of the German press agency in Munich.
He could not explain why he received the letter.
