Has unauthorized money been debited from your account?
According to consumer advocates, this is unfortunately not uncommon.
So what should you do?
Have you recently
checked
your
account
?
Consumer
advocates recommend doing exactly that more often when in doubt.
Because time and again it happens that
inexplicable
debits from the credit card *
appear
on the
account statement
- and they are “not infrequently the result of fraudulent machinations”, as the Rhineland-Palatinate consumer center warns.

New for payments with credit cards: two-factor authentication
What is new is that up to now, fraudsters could pay on the Internet with knowledge of the card and verification number and the expiry date of a credit card.
However, since February 15,
the so-called
two-factor authentication has been in effect
for
payments by credit card from 150 euros
.
That means: Payments must be approved with two independent factors - for example the credit card and an additional
transaction number (TAN)
.
As of mid-March, the procedure will apply to
all credit card payments
, as the Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) writes.
