Munich - For a few months now, a new food label has been paving the way for German consumers to eat better while shopping

The Nutri-Score logo appears on more and more product packages at discounters.

The introduction of the nutritional value traffic light is apparently not immune to initial problems: the internationally active Danone group is

faced with accusations of incorrect labeling

Nutri-Score wrongly awarded for chocolate pudding: Danone admits mistakes

As the paper explains, the dessert should be given the letter "D" due to its composition, which means one level worse.

It was not to be assumed that the pudding is healthy anyway: The Nutri-Score scale ranges from A (rather healthy) to E (rather questionable).

As Danone's corporate communications based near Munich confirmed, it is indeed an incorrect classification.

The product name is to be adapted immediately on the Internet until the process takes place in stores, but it will take some time: Only "from May this year" will it be possible for the chocolate pudding's nutri score to be corrected.

Even if the food company Danone apparently has problems with the implementation: It is at least commendable that its products are even labeled with the Nutri-Score: Food manufacturers decide for themselves whether to label their products.

This is one of the aspects that appear to have room for improvement with the new nutritional value traffic light:

Danone was one of the first food groups to use the nutritional value system developed in France in its range.

This has also moved the competition like Nestlé to deal with Nutri-Score.

How does Nutri-Score work?

System introduced in stores at the end of 2020

Since autumn 2020, the new food labeling has been on more and more products on supermarket shelves.

Federal Minister of Food Julia Klöckner had four labeling models tested in a survey beforehand, and Nutri-Score was therefore favored by 57 percent of people.

The system is a supplement to the mandatory nutrition tables in the European Union. While this information is usually printed in small letters on the packaging, the Nutri-Score should catch the eye.
