The transplant, which was performed at Tel Hashomer Hospital, took place after a long struggle with the Ministry of Health. • The lungs that were transplanted belonged to Yonatan Granot, the soldier who died today from gunfire.

Lungs were transplanted tonight (Friday) for the first time in Israel in a corona patient, who has been connected to a heart-lung machine in recent months.
The lungs belonged to Sgt. Yonatan Granot, an IDF soldier who died this morning from his wounds after he was shot on Tuesday by another soldier at a military base in the Jordan Valley area.
The transplant was performed at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, and was performed after a lengthy struggle by the hospital for approval from the Ministry of Health regarding lung transplants in Corona patients as a treatment for patients whose lungs were irreversibly damaged.
The struggle was revealed last October in "Israel Today".
