Istat: -12.1% the turnover of services in 2020

In the fourth quarter of 2020 the seasonally adjusted index of the turnover of services decreased by -2.2%

compared to the previous quarter, while the general raw index recorded a decline, in trend terms, of -7.6%.

Istat notes this in its quarterly report.

During 2020 there was a 12.1% decline in the turnover index of service companies, the largest since the beginning of the historical series

(available since 2001).

In the quarter there was a particularly large downturn in the sector of accommodation and catering services (-32.8%) which compared to the previous year marks -50%. 

Overall, the loss in turnover affected almost all of the sectors surveyed, resulting particularly marked in the activities most affected by the restrictions related to the health emergency, such as those related to the tourism sector (travel agency activities -76.3 %, air transport -60.5%, accommodation and restaurant services activities -42.5%).

The postal services and courier services and IT services and other information services sectors are in contrast with annual increases of 4.4% and 1.8% respectively.
