Zoom will make transcription of subtitles available to everyone within the year.
The company confirmed this in an official post on its blog, explaining how the novelty will work.
Everything is based on the artificial intelligence on which the Live Transcription option is already based today, but it is only active for users with a subscription fee.
The host of the room, who created the conversation, can enable the display of subtitles directly from the browser or app.
The difference is that all subscribers, mostly free, will benefit from the transcription of the text in real time.
A feature that also looks at hearing impaired users, until now somehow excluded from being able to follow a conversation online or linked to the display of words entered manually by the organizers of a meeting.
Although there is no news on the release times, just those who have hearing problems can already make the request to view subtitles, by clicking on the Zoom support pages and waiting for the activation of the option for the personal account.
Currently, the transcript is only available in English and it is unclear whether it will be extended to other languages at the global launch.
Automatic subtitles are also available with other videoconferencing services such as Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, and considering the popularity that this type of app is gaining, it is certainly good to open the understanding of the conversation to users with different abilities, as well as provide a ' additional text-based utility.
