The general music directors and chief conductors as well as artistic directors of 21 Berlin opera and concert halls as well as theaters wrote an open letter to the Federal Chancellor, the Governing Mayor and the Berlin Senator for Science and Culture: »We demand that the institutions we manage as soon as possible Time to open, but in any case in harmony with the retail trade, «reads the letter to Angela Merkel, Michael Müller, Ramona Pop and Klaus Lederer.
The signatories include Daniel Barenboim, General Director of the Staatskapelle, Kirill Petrenko, Chief Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic, the directors of the three Berlin operas and the directors of the Berliner Ensemble, Maxim Gorki Theater and Volksbühne.
In the letter they point out that scientific studies have unanimously confirmed that the hygiene concepts of the cultural institutions guarantee the lowest risk of infection in public spaces.
Taking into account the current infection situation, in continuous exchange with experts and with constant further development and adaptation of hygiene measures, one struggles, it goes on in the letter, »for the survival of the social reception of art, for the continuation of an artistic debate in society and for a revival of Berlin as a metropolis of art and music «.

On March 3, Chancellor Merkel wants to decide with the heads of government of the federal states about the further procedure in the pandemic.
