The Federal Police in Erfurt tracked down six children and young people smuggled on a truck.
According to the investigators, the ten to 16-year-olds come from Afghanistan and apparently came from Romania via parts of the so-called Balkan route to Germany.
On Thursday, they were finally discovered in the Erfurt freight center, the police said on Friday.
The children and young people had previously cut through the tarpaulin to draw attention to themselves.
The truck driver was initially questioned as a possible perpetrator.
According to the MDR, he is said to have parked the car at the freight center and then left.
Driver after initial suspicion back at large
The first results of the investigation from his interrogation, the questioning of witnesses and the people smuggled, however, did not corroborate the suspicion against the driver, the police said.
He was released again.
The children were housed in youth facilities in the city of Erfurt.
They are doing well under the circumstances.
The truck was searched for further evidence and evidence on Friday.
The federal police are investigating the smuggling of foreigners.
